MY TOP 5 EMCEES

Ok, to start out let me just clarify, this is my top 5 as of today. Not who's the hottest, not whose the all time best dead or alive. This list is for the guys who when I see they got a new track out I instantly wana hear it. I dont hate or like Drake, Wayne or Nikki. I'm not a fan of them but they are good. New school is mostly garbage to me. Lil B especially although I find him slightly funny, I just dont wana like that shit. Wiz? I'll pass. Now I do like J.Cole, I just aint heard enough. Excluded from this list are some of my favorites that just aint out there like I want them to. Prodigy of Mobb Deep for example is the rapper I studied and built my style around originally. I wanted to have Redmans comedy and Jay-Z's intelligence. Kanyes not on here, nor is T.I. although both are talented, I'm more of a raw fan. Lets start shall we.

 YELAWOLF

Ok...ok...now when I seen dude just a few months ago I wrote him off. After signing with Shady I gave him a shot and D@MN. I'm a big fan of this kid, when I see a track has him on it, I wana hear his verse first. He has talent, a sense of humor and he's smart about how he chooses his words. He is very marketable based on being a white rapper yes and being associated with Em but he can offer so much more. I can't see anything but good things for him. "Pop the Truck" and "2.0 Boys" are 2 examples and check out his verse on "Worldwide Choppers" if you need further clarification.
 BEANS

Beanie Sigel is raw in its rawest form. Gritty, grimey, everything I wanted to sound like and embody. His ability on his first album just won me over. His association with Jay-Z gave him mainstream appeal. He literally "Rocs the Mic." I cant fuck with Beans on my best day. I wasn't born with the ability to just snap and watch some youtube funk flex freestyle videos if you want to see a master at work. "What Ya Life Like" is to this day one of the illest joints I ever heard. I maybe missed an album but when I see some new shit from Beans, I'm ready.
 50 Cent

I dont care if you don't like him, I always will. I've listened to countless interviews courtesy of youtube and he just comes off as a man who is so aware of shit. He's got a business mind and a rich background in the streets. Sure there's a lot of gun talk, drug talk and stuntin, but I admire 50 for a lot of reasons beyond the music. I want to be 50 Cent in a sense. The space he's in, the power he has...I need that. New York hip hop beats are the perfect backdrop for a grimey verse and I appreciate the product. He's easy to hate but when it's 50, its quality. Not the most lyrical but I don't care, this is 50.
 Eminem

I still will click on a new Em joint before a lot of other MC's so he goes up here. He's obviously the most successful rapper in history, white or black the boi is good. He can do things on a track I wont even try and gets away with ridiculous shit. I cant shit on Em if I wanted to. His new material may sound different but you cant deny SKILL. He's accomplished so much that to me, he cant do whatever he wants and I'll ride with him as a fan. Do I miss the early 2000 Slim Shady, yes. But Eminem is one of the best rappers to ever do it and do question that is called HATING.
Joe Budden

Once apon a time there was a song called "Pump It Up" and it fuckin sucked. Another rapper, another corney song. I avoided anything with Joe Budden's name on it for years. That is until I heard a song called Slaughterhouse. The song featured all members of the group Slaughterhouse and another guy. I heard this and said to myself...whoa...is...is that...nooo...is that Joey? Yes, the next day I sought out every Joe Budden track I could find and now??? Joe Budden is my favorite MC, period. He consistently outshines any quest on a track and has unlimited skill. He talks personal, gets emotional and isn't afraid to acknowledge imperfections. This is what an MC is supposed to do. Did I mention he can craft the best verse you will ever hear and have 2 more long verses to go along with it. I find myself getting pissed off when I listen to him cuz I'm like FUCK!!!! Why didnt I think of that. He has a great sound, a marketable look, a impressive body of work and he knows what the fuck he is doing. I also can listen to this guy all day via youtube. He's the biggest jerk on the planet and I love it. He is honest and says what he wants. He knows the business. Joe Budden is #1, google him.

Thanks for reading

  1. Joe Budden for the motherfucking win!!!! I keep trying to put my boys on to his music but they wrote him off a long time ago. Its a damn shame too because dude has heatrocks. From Halfway House, Padded Room, Escape Route, Slaughterhouse and his Mood Musik mixtapes Buddens got some songs that can go toe to toe with some of the best. As for Yelawolf I cant stand his voice so I never listen to him. He sounds weird 2 me, idk why.
